Entry 08/02/2006 10:14:45 AM – Mentat 284

08/02/2006
God, more than two weeks have passed since the last time I had sat down and written anything.  Not surprising, given the fact that the last two weeks, I’ve been worked like a dog with 9 – 12 hour days, and little to no sleep going on.  I’ve been bordering on wanting to quit and bail whenever the opportunity presents itself, and there had been a couple of times when I had almost done it by dropping off my ID tag, grabbing my bag, and simply walking the hell out of the place and not look back.  Not entirely sure why I keep see-sawing through this wanting to quit/wanting to be fired other than perhaps I’m simply not handling the stress well, and this is some sort of relief valve of mine wanting to be released.  Pretty sure it is, given that I’m feeling under-appreciated, and constantly wondering whether there’s backstabbing and backbiting going on that I’m not aware of, given the way folk there talk about people they don’t like behind their back, instead of doing it to their faces…  But hey, this is the north, and I really should know better…
When I’m not working, I’ve been out shopping.  Mainly movies…  Lots of them.  In the last couple of weeks I’ve picked up the following:

  • Hero
  • Aeon Flux
  • Fantastic Four
  • To Wong Foo: Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar
  • Gattaca
  • Resident Evil & Resident Evil: Apocalypse
  • Van Helsing (not up to the expectations, believe me)
  • War of the Worlds (Not a Tom Cruise fan anymore since his freak-show on Oprah)
  • Underworld & Underworld: Evolution
  • Batman Begins (Bale did well for it, but his mouth just isn’t right when he’s in a mask.  Made him look all mouth), and of course
  • Muriel’s Wedding.

Yeah, it would appear that I’m collecting movies like a madman, because of what little movies I had when I was living in Atlanta had been lost; or because I simply didn’t have the gumption or desire to pick up, buy, rent, or go out to the movies to see them in the theaters.  Now that I’ve seen some of them — they’re worth seeing/owning — although one or two I’ve been particularly disappointed with.  Van Helsing being one of them…  And while I did like the action in Underworld: Evolution, the story was surprisingly lacking.  Not enough action to carry the story along though.
Although I have to say that one of the things that I find surprisingly lacking when I’ve been out to the various movie retailers in the area is the gay and lesbian choices for movies…  Both rental and for purchase. Odd that, given that this state’s supposed to be more tolerant of gay and lesbian concerns.  I’m going to have to make my way to Rhode Island Mall/Warwick Mall to see whether or not the movie retailers there have gay & lesbian movies, as there are a couple of them that I would like to see.

Other than that — there’re a couple of things currently a brewing — but at the present time I’m in no mood to talk about them just yet.  When I get myself ready for a good ranting, I’ll do so….  Until then — this will just be a “hello, still alive, just not writing much…”

     Until the next time.
